I finished my training in 2007 and started working for a wedding studio in Sydney straight after that. I have photographed hundreds of weddings. I have been photographing weddings on the Mornington Peninsula as Miss Pickle Photography for five years.
I work very hard to make sure I get to know my couples before their wedding day. It’s my goal to make sure you feel comfortable and relaxed around me. If I am able to blend in, everyone can act naturally and I am able to capture great candid photographs. I do offer the option of adding a second photographer to your package if you’re having a large amount of guests or if it's logistically difficult for me to get to cover the bride and groom preparations. We can discuss all of these details when we meet up.
I would say it’s classic, fun, natural and timeless. I LOVE ambient and natural light when I photograph a wedding, and I will only really use flash once the sun has gone down. I tend to shoot things as I see them and not use filters or presets after the images are taken. I find those kinds of techniques will date, and you really don’t want that for photos you want to cherish and share with family forever.
Who does!! I like to photograph the day as it unfolds, usually blending in with everyone else, capturing genuine moments between you and your friends and family. During the ceremony you won’t even know that I’m there and at the reception I photograph everyone candidly but will sometimes get your guests together for some ‘posed’ shots looking at the camera. I make it my mission to capture everyone candidly at least once during the day. I do offer gentle direction during the bridal party photographs to make sure I get you looking your best and in the best light, but I assure you that it is relaxed and fun. I also get you to just hang out with your bridal party, have a glass of champagne and just chill. We do a bit of walking too, which makes it more relaxed and I hang back on a longer lens so I’m not shoving a camera right up in your beautiful face the whole time!
I offer all of my couples (who book a minimum six hour package) an engagement shoot at the time of their final catch up before the wedding. We are meeting up anyway, so why not! It’s a great way to get to know each other and for you to see how I work on the day. You will find you’re so much more relaxed on your wedding day if you have a warm up.
I usually take 2000+ images at every wedding. Many are test shots or duplicates in case you blink, I misjudge the exposure or miss the focus. I only select the best images to enhance and include on your online gallery.
I send you a ‘Sneak Peek’ of about 20 images as a digital gallery for you to share with friends and family within a week of your wedding. You can expect to receive your full set of images within 4-6 weeks, depending on how busy I am, sometimes it’s sooner.
Some people start planning their wedding day and booking suppliers a couple of years in advance. September through to May is the busiest time for weddings here on the Mornington Peninsula, so if you’re planning your wedding in those months then it’s better to be safe rather than sorry. It is a first come first served type of scenario, and you’re not locked in until your booking fee has been paid and contracts are signed.
There is SO much more to being a wedding photographer than what actually happens on the day. There is all the training we have done before we’ve even thought about shooting our first wedding as a main shooter. That might be going to uni or tafe or art school, then there’s the actual training as an assistant and training in Photoshop and Lightroom. This all takes LOADS of hours. Then there is the editing work that goes into your images after the wedding. It can take anywhere from 25 to 40 hours on top of the actual shooting time. As well as the work hours there is equipment costs, marketing costs and time, car expenses, phone, internet and image storage. All of these factors take time and money and our businesses could not run without it. A professional wedding photographer doesn’t just have a camera.
On top of all of that you are paying for our experience within the wedding industry. An experienced wedding photographer has seen it all; the good, the ugly and the freakin awesome. An experienced photographer knows how to keep you calm when the ugly occurs and helps you have fun no matter what. We know what happens and when and will guide you through the day so you don’t have to worry about what’s next. We’ve got your back. We are your point of contact throughout your entire wedding day. All of this in addition to your beautiful wedding photographs is what you pay for, and you won’t regret it.
I have photographed weddings all over the Mornington Peninsula, Yarra Valley and Greater Melbourne area, the Bellarine Peninsula and some beautiful properties in country Victoria. I have photographed weddings all throughout Sydney as well including the Northern Beaches, Country NSW and Bowral. I've also been lucky enough to photograph International Weddings including Colombia (I know!!!) and England.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE TO! My family live in Sydney so I frequently travel there to visit them and to photograph clients’ weddings. It’s also lovely to go to a new place to photograph a wedding as new surrounds are so inspiring for wedding photographers. I can often absorb travel costs into having a little holiday, so get in touch and let’s make a plan!
